Idris Elba’s MAXIM Magazine cover: let’s swoon together ladies!

Hello Glamazonians! I know you lots are going to thank me greatly for this post. I’m minding my own business getting ready for bed when a friend of mine sends me the cover of Idris Elba‘s Maxim Magazine cover. I immediately dropped my phone on the ground from the steam my phone generating. Okay, I digress. But seriously that is one beautiful man! Maxim’s new editor-in-chief Kate Lanphear told Racked,

“We’ve never in US Maxim history had a man on the cover solo, this is the very first time, and there was no one else in the world more badass than Idris.”

Kate, we agree!

Queen Kerry Washington’s beauty regimen revealed!

Hello Glamazonians! Queen Kerry Washington sat down with InStyle Magazine UK to spill some tea about her beauty regimen so of course you know I was paying full attention. Read on to find out more about the Scandal starlet’s make-up and hair do’s & don’ts. By the way, Kerry’s deep conditioning tip is a must for every natural afro girl!

Kerry-Washington1) Be bold

“I used to really stay away from a bold lip as I’d mostly focus on my eyes but now I play around a lot more with colour when I comes to my lips. It was actually thanks to a good friend of mine who’s a make-up artist and once I actually let her try it out on me I really loved that sense of play a bright lip can give. It’s something I’ve always had in my fashion choices but I’d never really thought of make-up as an accessory before.
It’s funny, but I think another reason I was more willing to take a risk is because it’s so important for me to go out into the world as myself rather than the characters I play so I always try and look as different from Olivia Pope as possible. Olivia always wears a more conservative natural look with a nude lip so I definitely think that may have been what left me open to trying something more fun.”

2) TLC your tresses

“Deep conditioning is something I’ve really learnt to embrace especially because I use so many products and heated tools on my hair during the week. When I’m not working I prefer to let my hair be natural– I’ll stick a good leave-in conditioner on and just pull it back or let it do its thing – basically the opposite of what Olivia does with her hair. At the beginning of this last season we actually did show Olivia with her hair in a natural texture – it started out with her and Jake on an island so we thought it would be really fun to show a side of her that we’d never seen before. It’s definitely not who she is back home though – her hair is kind of like her armor – it’s part of how she defines herself and how she presents herself to the world.

3) Get to know your skin

“I feel sort of blessed and cursed that I had eczema as a small child as it meant that I’ve always had a relationship with a dermatologist whilst there are a lot of women out there who are walking into a derm’s office for the first time in their 30s. There’s so much conflicting advice out there and so many products claiming different things that it’s difficult to work out what really works for your skin. It’s actually part of the reason I now work with Neutrogena as I like the fact that they’re rooted in science and they try to help women be the best version of themselves rather than hiding behind smoke and mirrors. At the end of the day I’m also just a girl who loves good products.”

4) Be militant about cleansing

“My biggest beauty bug-bear is that I wear that make-up between 16 and 17 hours a day under baking hot lights when I’m working so I’m almost religious about taking my make-up off. I never sleep in it  (well, sometimes I might leave on a little eye make up just for fun as it looks so much better the next day)  but I always try to let my skin breathe overnight, even if I just use make-up remover wipes to take everything off – it’s so, so important.”

5) Fake it

“I wore acrylic nails for a long time and found that they weren’t the healthiest thing for my nails. I do love a gel but because I have to have such a specific look now for the show (clean, bare nails) when it comes to red carpet events I’ve been doing those press-on nails instead.  I’ll paint them a colour that I love then kind of shape them to my hand – it just means that I can have a bit more fun with my nails again.”

-KERRY WASHINGTON-6) Bespoke your base

“When it comes to foundation, I think it’s important to have at least a couple of shades in your make-up bag because different parts of your face are different colours and I  know that I can look very different depending on the time of year – just make sure you blend them together well. Also, don’t be afraid to change-up the texture of your foundation to suit you – just mix some with little bit of moisturizer to create your own tinted moisturizer based on colours that really work for you.”

7) Make exercise work for you

“I would say I’m pretty healthy but it’s also because I have to be. Right before we started shooting the show I was at an event with Ellen Pompeo and I was grilling her for tips on how to handle this crazy TV world as I’d never worked in television in this way before. She told me to treat yourself like an athlete i.e. make sure that you eat well and sleep well and exercise so that your body’s capable of meeting the rigors  of the job and that’s proven to be the best advice for me. I also try to pray and meditate in the mornings because I find that when I do, it gives me a little bit of time to get centered and creates more room in my heart and mind to actually do all those things like eat and exercise right.”

GLAMAZONIAN MODEL OF THE MONTH!!!

Hello Glamazonians! It’s been exactly a year since I posted my ‘model of the month’ so I decided to resurrect it from the drafts section. This month’s model of the month is none other than the fiercest woman I know, Inca Nolani. Did I mention she is also my partner-in-crime/sister-friend? While Inca is slaying photo-shoots left and right, she is also booking advertisements and appearing on Uncover Papua, a docu-series in Indonesia. Well my sister-friend decided to send me shots from her recent shoot for Swimwear by Musim and well I’ll let you  be the judge of them.

Why we’re all still obsessed with Misty Copeland

Hello Glamazonians!

Ever since Misty Copeland landed the coveted spot of Principal Dancer, it seems more people are enamored of her. As someone who has been following Copeland’s career for the past few years, I can tell you that she is so worth the attention we’re giving her. Being given the spot of principal dancer means that she is the highest rank of the dancers at American Ballet Theatre! Copeland is the also first Black woman to ever hold that title in ABT’s 75 year history. Isn’t it interesting that in 2015 we’re still talking about people of colour making new strides in their professions? I have friends who say to me, “why can’t we just celebrate her accomplishment, must it be about race all the time”? I say to them the same thing I say to everyone who asks that question. When we get to a place where being the first person of colour in a position isn’t such a monumental achievement, then our work is done. Until then, we celebrate Misty for her hard work and celebrate the strides she’s making for young girls in the Ballet world.

MAC X GIAMBATTISTA VALLI LIPSTICK COLLECTION

Hello Glamazonians! If you’re a make-up hoarder like me, you’ve most likely heard of the Mac- Giambattista Valli collaboration. I’ve had my eye on these shades for a while so color me excited when I saw that one of my fave beauty sites, Temptalia did their swatch and reviews for them. The colours are Bianca B, Margherita, Tats, Charlotte, Eugenie. Bianca B is a very pale pink non wearable shade that doesn’t tickle my fancy. On my very brown skin, it’ll look wayyyy too harsh. The more I stare at Margherita, the more I’m convincing myself to get it. My faves are Tats, Charlotte, and Eugenie. How beautiful are they?!?! And the packaging alone makes me want them even more. Now I just need to set an alarm for July 9th before they’re all gone from the MAC website.

GLAMAZONIAN WRAP-UP: 2015 B.E.T AWARDS

Hello Glamazonians! I won’t bore you with reasons why I’ve been neglecting my blogging duties, so let’s get on with judging the lives of the rich & famous, shall we? If you were on any social media site ON Sunday night, you heard of the shenanigans that was the B.E.T Awards. And I mean shenanigans in the nicest way possible. To put it best, The B.E.T Awards is the only place you can hear a rapper sing about “getting money” , “bitches & hoes” and “twerking” and go right back to praising the Lord all in a span of three hours. I call it the charm of BET. Isn’t that why we all tune in every year? Tracee Ellis Ross & her black-ish co-star Anthony Anderson did a phenomenal job of hosting and don not get me started on Tracee’s wardrobe changes during the show. Chenneling her Queen mother the entire night.

BEST PERFORMANCES:

Bad Boy tribute. I must say, I’m not the kind to get uber excited about award show performances as I have watched so many of them, but the moment Faith Evans came out in that fur coat and sleek straight hair, I swore I heard the heavens sing! And just when I thought the performance couldn’t get any better, Lil’ Kim ascends from a pit in the stage looking like the Queen she is. Other stars on the Bad Boy roster that joined P. Diddy were Ma$e, 112, Lox, Jadakiss and Sheek Louch. They broke out ’90s hits including, “Mo money, Mo Problems” ,“Peaches and Cream,” “All About the Benjamins” and “Love Like This” with a posthumous video performance from Notorious B.I.G. Shea Serrano wrote the best piece about the tribute over at Grantland, so hop over there after you’re done here!

GLAMAZONIAN RED CARPET REPORT: 2015 INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS

Hello Glamazonians! I am here to do my due diligence which is to share with you all the hits and misses from the Independent Spirit Awards red carpet. First and foremost, Queen Kerry Washington. That Face. No wonder she was called Helen of Troy on Scandal, well Olivia Pope, her character was. But since she is the owner of that face, she gets the compliment. Other fab starlets on the carpet were Olivia Munn, Jessica Chastain and Emmy Rossum.

Drop by Monday for my rundown of the Oscars red carpet.

GLAMAZONIAN RED CARPET REPORT: 2015 GOLDEN GLOBES

Hello Glamazonians! The Golden Globes red carpet were full of fashion do and don’ts that I am here to share with you all. Queen Kerry Washington blessed us with her appearance in a metallic Mary Katrantzou gown with a sweetheart neckline and cinched bodice. I wasn’t quite sure of the length, but after a while I ended up loving it. The next person I gagged over, was Amal Alamuddin. May I go on record to state that I want to be Amal when I grow up! She glowed on the arms of her new hubby George Clooney while in a stunning one shoulder Dior gown with white gloves- gasp! The interweb was torn on whether they hated or liked it, but you know I couldn’t get enough of the look. Other fashion divas I loved were Catherine Zeta-Jones in a red-hot Angel Sanchez gown, Sienna Miller in a Miu Miu number and Felicity Jones in Dior.

P.S this post is dedicated to the lovely Mikaila Havener!

FAVE LOOKS FROM THE 2014 VICTORIA’S SECRET FASHION SHOW!!!

Hello Glamazonians! I’m back from hiding. Temporarily of course. You’re probably wondering why I chose this time to gossip with all you glams, well it’s hell week. What’s hell week, you wonder? It’s exam week, here at uni, and since everyone is literally going mad with studying I decided to take a little break from drowning in Accounting and Biology and entertain myself with the annual lingerie show. The models looked absolutely beautiful with no flaw in sight. From Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss‘ strut down the catwalk, to Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio‘s showing of the $2million bras, there was no shortage of entertainment at this year’s show. Oh and Ed Sheeran and Hozier performed also but I have a feeling you all weren’t really paying much attention to them although mum absolutely LOVED Ed’s performance alongside telling me how small models have gotten nowadays. LOL.

P.S Don’t you guys just love Taylor & Karlie’s ensembles?

GLAMAZONIAN RED CARPET REPORT: 2014 MTV VMA’s

Hello Glamazonians! This weekend has been filled with fashion faux-pas and fashion a-ha’s during the numerous award show events. But before we delve into red carpet craziness at the VMA’s let’s discuss the main event! It seemed like the girls were running the show which was perfectly okay with me. From Nicki Minaj‘s opening ‘Anaconda‘ number, to Ariana Grande‘s ‘Break Free‘ performance to the girls joining the impeccable Jessie J on ‘Bang Bang.’ Can we have a moment of silence for the slayage that is Jessie J?!?

P.S Don’t forget to watch Queen Kerry Washington win her Emmy Award tonight!!!!!!!!! Goodluck KW!!!!!!!!
