Hello Glamazonians! I am here to do my due diligence which is to share with you all the hits and misses from the Independent Spirit Awards red carpet. First and foremost, Queen Kerry Washington. That Face. No wonder she was called Helen of Troy on Scandal, well Olivia Pope, her character was. But since she is the owner of that face, she gets the compliment. Other fab starlets on the carpet were Olivia Munn, Jessica Chastain and Emmy Rossum.
Drop by Monday for my rundown of the Oscars red carpet.
Hello Glamazonians! Celebs like Lupita Nyong’o, Margot Robbie, Jessica Chastain and Sandra Bullock graced us all with their fierceness at the 2014 Critics Choice Awards. Queen Lupita dazzled in a white cut out gown from the Calvin Klein Collection. White is your colour, love! I wasn’t surprised to see that the jumpsuit Margot Robbie wore was Elie Saab, (recall that gorgeous jumpsuit Rose Byrne wore to the SAG’s 2 yrs ago?) as she’s known for making jumpsuits to tailor a woman’s figure properly. These two beauties are having fashion moments this award season and I am here for it all!!!!! As much as I liked Kristen Bell‘s gown, the entire look felt very custume-y, like she was playing dress-up with her mum’s clothes and make-up. Maybe my expectations are a tad too high for her?
Hello Glamazonians! As a self proclaimed award show junkie, I knew there was no way I was missing the Emmy Awards last night. And to top it off my favourite actress/fashion crush/role model, Queen Kerry Washington was nominated for an Emmy, so you know I was sitting in front of the telly awaiting her arrival. KW show showed up in a show stopping floral dress from Marchesa‘s Spring 2014 Collection. I was a bit bummed, okay really upset, that she lost the Best Actress in a Drama Series award, which would have made her the first Black American to win that category. We’ll get ’em next year queen! Some of my other red carpet faves were Sophia Vergara, in her usual form fitting, plunging neckline gowns, this time designed by Vera Wang. House of Cards(my recent addiction) star, Kate Mara, wore a ravishing J. Mendel number, and kept serving drama with her smokey eyelook and very edgy haircut.
Hello Glamazonians! The celebs at the 2013 Style Awards had me yawning from all the boring ensembles. How ironic since it was the ‘style awards.’ The only person that gave me a semblance of a ‘life received’ moment was Anna Cleveland who donned a gown by Zac Posen and was on the designers arm on the carpet. As much as I wanted to like Ariana Grande‘s Kenley Collins dress, I can’t support that. Love, you’re 20, I need you to start looking like it. Think, of your ‘Baby I'(my new obsession) music video, that’s the look we need from your Ari! In other news, has anyone found out what Christie Brinkley‘s beauty regimen is? She looks like she’s been drinking from the fountain of youth for the past decade!
Hello Glamazonians! From seeing my fave girl group, Danity Kane, reunite on the red carpet, to screaming my guts out during the NSYNC reunion, the VMA’s was nothing short of a spectacle. I use the word spectacle because, well, if you’ve seen the show or live on planet earth, you’ve heard of Miley Cyrus‘ twerking debacle with Robin Thicke. Don’t worry I won’t soil your day with a clip of the performance. Let’s get started with this red carpet recap, shall we?
Hello Glamazonians! Long time, no update. I informed you Glams I was taking some classes this summer, so now that that’s over, I’ll be returning to my regular updating schedule. YAY! This past week, some of our favourite starlets, dressed to impress at the premieres of their movies.
LILY COLLINS in a Cushnie et OchsResort 2014 knee- length ivory fishnet stamped leather dress with cut-out accents.
AMANDA SEYFRIED in a blue polka-dot high collared Gucci dress and Givenchy heels.
RACHEL MCADAMS in a white floor legth Roksanda Ilincic gown to the About Time premiere.
Hello Glamazonians! Sorry I’ve been M.I.A these past few days, blame the summer classes I’m taking. I checked my email yesterday and a lovely reader said to me, “I’m surprised you haven’t blogged about Kerry Washington‘s Vanity Fair cover photos yet, knowing how much you love to blog about her. I know you’ll have a ton to say, so I’m waiting patiently.” Trust me love, the minute I saw those photos I momentarily lost my mind. Not only because of KW’s stunning cover photo, but because I found out that Vanity Fair hasn’t had a black woman on the cover in SIX YEARS! Seriously, I don’t make this stuff up! Not even typical magazine cover staples like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Halle Berry. The print industry has this stigma, this mentality, that having black women on the cover of magazines can’t and won’t sell as many issues as having women of other races. Back to Queen Kerry. After her amazingly fierce ELLE Magazine photos, and nowVanity Fair, I expect Marie Claire, Rolling Stone and of course the fashion bible, Vogue, to be knocking on her door. Make it happen Anna Wintour, we know you love Scandal too. It’s about time that more people are taking note of her powerhouse talent. College graduate(George Washington University), political and social advocate and a great role model to boot, this woman is here to stay, Hollywood, now grant her the cover of VOGUE!
Hello Glamazonians! My friend Taylor Reis and I got together and brainstormed an idea for Fiercely Glamazonian. Since Tay has an affinity for nail art, we came up with a “Taylor Made Manicure Mondays” segment. Every couple of weeks, I shall update this segment with new tutorials.
STEP ONE: Gather supplies listed below.
Nail polish remover
PRE-REQUISITE BEFORE BEGINNING: Make sure nails are cleaned thoroughly. Clip and buff nails before starting step two!
STEP TWO: Paint nails with white nail polish. The first coat doesn’t have to be perfect since you’ll be going over it again.
NO PICTURE AFTER STEP TWO, SORRY GLAMS!
STEP THREE: Paint yellow polish over white. Make sure there is a little bit room left on the bottom of the nail.
STEP FOUR: Add one more coat to the yellow polish. Don’t worry if it’s a little messy. You can clean it up after.
STEP FIVE: Take the nail art colours and paint whatever design you want. Taylor wanted to do Aztec like designs on my nails but you can do whatever designs you want. Make sure the design is only on the yellow polish. You can leave it as is, and apply your top coat. But if you’re a bit adventurous with your nails, keep reading.
STEP SIX: Try different designs on each finger nail, add top coats and VIOLÀ ALL DONE!
Hello Glamazonians! The B.E.T Awards aired tonight and I must admit, this is the most fun I’ve had watching this award show in the last few years. Where do I start? Queen Mariah Carey‘s performance with Miguel, R. Kelly‘s 4 minute rundown of his catalog, Charlie Wilson‘s flawless performance with Justin Timberlake, Pharrell and Snoop Dogg(Lion?) If someone where to ask me who A$AP Rocky was, I wouldn’t know what to say to the person but ask me what my fave R.Kelly song is and I’ll be able to give you a rundown. And let’s not forget Robin Thicke with T.I and Pharrell singing my ultimate summer song, Blurred Lines.
I think my fave performance was probably a tie between the Charlie Wilson tribute and the Island takeover. As a lover of Dancehall music, I was in heaven when Beenie Man came out and started “Who Am I.“ Dawn Penn performed “No, No No” and Chaka Demus and Pliers performed their smash hit “Murder She Wrote.” The final performer was Elephant Man, who jumped on stage for “Pon Di River.” I literally could not sit still during the whole performance. I shall post a clip of the unbelievable mash-up once I get the chance.
The question I kept asking myself after the show was: why on earth didn’t Justin Timberlake perform Mirrors?
